Mental Health Therapy Services

From the desk of: Karla J. Burgess, MS Ed, LMHP, LPC

    Individual Therapy
Individual therapy is offered to all clients - adults, adolescents and children. This involves the therapist and client working together to identify treatment goals. Once goals have been established, the collaborative work continues to find ways to meet those goals. For children and adolescents, individual therapy will at times become family work also, involving parents and siblings of the client.

    Family Therapy
Family therapy services are offered to meet the needs of each individual child and their family. Working as a family gives those involved the opportunity to identify the strengths within the individual and the family, empowering the family to function better as a system.

    Interpersonal Therapy
Interpersonal therapy is a one-on-one interaction between the therapist and the client, focusing on the client’s current life situations within family, work and social situations. This may be a solution focused which may bring about solutions to the problems and insight and understanding within the client.

    Neurofeedback
Neurofeedback is a technique that teaches the client to learn how to alter brain waves, which can strengthen the brain in areas that will allow for improvement in symptoms. Neurofeedback has been successful in treating a variety of conditions including ADD/ADHD, addictions, anxiety, autism, TMJ, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, conduct disorder, depression, epilepsy, fibromyalgia, headaches and migraines, insomnia, pain management, peak performance, post traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injury. The better the brain functions, the better it is able to take care of body and mind issues. For more information go to www.eegspectrum.com

    Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
CBT focuses on the thoughts a person thinks and how it impacts how he or she feels. This type of therapy is designed to help the client become aware of thought distortions, beliefs, assumptions and behaviors that are causing the distress. Through this process of learning and becoming aware, clients acquire coping strategies and insight with more awareness and introspection, allowing them to manage symptoms and enjoy a more productive, less stressful life.

    Behavior Modification
Behavior Modification therapy focuses on changing behaviors through reinforcement and reward of positive behaviors and desensitization.

    Love & Logic Parenting Classes
This is not just another parenting idea- this one works! All parents want to prepare their children for the real world. That is where Love and Logic Parenting comes in. Love means giving your kids opportunities to be responsible, empowering them to make their own decisions. Logic means allowing them to live with the natural consequences of their mistakes and showing empathy for the pain, disappointment and frustration they’ll experience. Love and Logic Parenting will help you meet the challenge of parenting effectively head-on. Classes are offered periodically throughout the year or you may contact our office to have a parenting consultation.

    School Consultation Services
A unique service offered to teachers and counselors at areas schools. This service allows teachers and counselors to consult with our therapist regarding challenging situations that arise in the classroom. Students go to school everyday with much more on their mind that just academics. At times, teachers and counselors need ideas to help address these tough situations. This is also part of a Systems Approach that is embraced by this practice- that our lives are impacted by a variety of systems including school, friends, family and society.
